Getting Started with Mushroom Spore Microscopy

If you're new to magic mushroom spores or Psilocybe cubensis microscopy, this guide will walk you through the essential steps. Our spore syringes and spore prints are perfect for beginners and experienced mycologists alike.

What You'll Need

  • Microscope (400x or higher recommended)
  • Glass microscope slides & cover slips
  • Spore syringe or spore print
  • Distilled water
  • Gloves & alcohol wipes for sterile handling

How to Prepare a Slide with a Spore Syringe

  1. Sanitize your workspace and tools using alcohol.
  2. Add a small drop of spore solution to the center of a clean microscope slide.
  3. Place a cover slip gently over the droplet to avoid air bubbles.
  4. Place the slide under your microscope and begin at the lowest magnification.
  5. Adjust the focus and increase magnification to view individual spores.

Microscopy Tip

Magic mushroom spores are typically elliptical and dark purple to black in color. Look for gill patterns and hyphal structures when studying spore prints under the microscope.

How to Use a Spore Print

  1. Use a sterile blade to scrape a small amount of spores from the print onto a slide.
  2. Add a drop of distilled water and mix gently with a sterile loop.
  3. Apply the cover slip and proceed with microscopy as above.
