Panaeolus cyanescens, commonly known as the Blue Meanie or Copelandia cyanescens, is a potent and distinctive species of psychedelic mushroom. Belonging to the Panaeolus genus, these mushrooms are renowned for their vibrant blue bruising, which occurs when the fungus is handled or damaged. Native to tropical and subtropical regions around the world, Panaeolus cyanescens is often found in cow dung and other rich organic substrates.
The cap of Panaeolus cyanescens is convex when young, eventually flattening out as it matures, reaching a diameter of up to 3 centimeters. The color of the cap varies, ranging from pale brown to a darker, chestnut brown. The distinguishing feature of this mushroom is the blue or greenish-blue bruising that occurs when the cap or stem is touched, a reaction caused by the oxidation of psilocin.
The stem of Panaeolus cyanescens is slender and cylindrical, featuring a white to pale yellow color with a fibrous texture. The gills underneath the cap are closely spaced, dark purplish-brown when young, and eventually turning black as the mushroom matures.
